IASO

IASO is the Greek God of recuperation - so convenient then that her name begins with an "I" when that is the letter of the alphabet E&K reached this year - 2020.

THE

INSPIRATION

Nicola in 2020 - all dressed up with nowhere to go

"I received so many text messages around the time we would have been partying to celebrate this, E&K's 9th collection. So it is wonderful to discover our annual party has become a fixture in so many diaries, and I really hope to see as many of you as possible in 2021 for the launch of the Julia collection.’

In my speech for my 5th collection I said "This year has seen more than its fair share of ..... unwelcome change"...if only I knew what the year of the 9th collection would see. This year has truly been like no other.

One of the main themes throughout all my collections has been the proximity of light and dark, cracks letting in light. I don't think any of us anticipated the extremes of change we saw in 2020, dazzling light in the heroism of our nurses and front line workers and devastating darkness as the virus rampaged through our world.

But as I put the final touches on the collection, the vaccines were being approved, and the light was visible at last.

There was a lot of contrast in the capsule collection, half was in black rhodium-plated gold and the names reflected the swings of emotion we all felt from "Diamondward spiral", a beautiful spiral of diamonds set in black gold, to "No time for the blues" - a rich blue sapphire surrounded with sparkling sapphires.

One of the stalwarts, the Peter's Bar necklace always named after a cocktail, this year was "negroni" vibrant red marquise rubies again in black gold. "Byzantine bonbons" were a rainbow of coloured gems set in yellow gold reflecting the rainbows we saw everywhere this year, and "Ruby triumph" - three luscious ruby cabochon stones also in yellow gold. Hopefully a portent of things to come!
